PORTSMOUTH boss Harry Redknapp is thought to be preparing a late bid to hijack Steven Reid's move to Ewood.
Rovers have agreed a fee with Millwall for the 22-year-old midfielder and he's expected in Blackburn for talks on Monday.
But Redknapp is ready to match Rovers' bid after failing to lure Tottenham's Darren Anderton to Fratton Park.
However, the Pompey chief would have to break the club's transfer record, which currently stands at £1.85 million for Dejan Stefanovic, in order to tempt him to the South Coast.
Portsmouth assistant boss Jim Smith said: "We are at the same stage as Blackburn. We need at least three more players because we are not a Premiership squad yet."
Rovers remain the favourites to land the Republic of Ireland international, though.
"It's hard not to get excited when a club like Rovers want you," said Reid, who is a close friend of defender Lucas Neill.
