IT is a great shame for all concerned that the Royal Lancs Show had to be abandoned. The problem with the rain was unforseeable.
However, could the road troubles have been solved by better positioning?
Possibly, it may have been a mistake to move from Chorley, where the show had grown to what it is today. A return to Astley Park seems out of the question though, since the powers-that-be, in their infinite wisdom, have reduced a significant chunk of the A6 to one lane, creating a sizeable bottleneck at often much more than peak times.
A possible answer may be to go closer to our extensive motorway system, possibly Preston, which would be in keeping with the use of the Ribble Valley.
