A MOTHER of two caught over the limit was weaving all over the road in the early hours, Burnley Magistrates heard.

The court was told how sewing machinist Andrea Riley, 34, who hit the kerb and at one point drove over the pavement and pulled up at a crematorium. She was found to be more than twice the limit when later breath tested.

Riley, of Oswald Street, Accrington, admitted driving with excess alcohol on Accrington Road, Burnley. She was fined £300, with £55 costs and banned for two years.

Andy Robinson, prosecuting, told the court the defendant clocked up between 60 and 70mph on a 40mph stretch.

She was stopped after police activated their emergency lights. Riley failed to halt initially but then pulled into the drive of Burnley Crematorium.

Officers spoke to her and it was clear she had been drinking. She told them: "I am out of order. I know I am drunk. I'm sorry." Mr Robinson said the defendant was taken to the police station, where the lower of two breath tests showed 85 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath -- the legal limit is 35.

Nick Dearing, defending, said Riley denied driving at the speed and in the fashion alleged. She had had a row with her long-term partner and set off to her sister's but turned back. She co-operated with the police.

The solicitor added the defendant had lost her good character and found that extremely distressing.
