IN the autumn issue of the Twin Valley Homes newspaper 'Home Matters,' I came across an article about the site where once 50 homes stood on North Road in Blackburn, for which Twin Valley Homes have no immediate plans and have decided to work with the Lancashire Wildlife Trust to create a meadow to attract wildlife.

I agree this is a brilliant job when so much countryside is being taken away for more housing and roads. But what I do not agree with is Twin Valley Homes providing financial support to plant hundreds of trees and sow seeds.

What about our elderly? They are put to the back of the queue again!

I rang Twin Valley about eight weeks ago asking if they could provide an outside light for my mother who is partially sighted, unstable on her feet and has a few other medical conditions, since the front door to her flat is down the side of the property and there is no street lighting.

Guess what the reply was? -- sorry, we do not have any resources for any new outside lighting. We are just repairing existing ones.

So how do they have finance to plant hundreds of trees? What is more important -- our elderly or trees?

Footnote: Gwyneth Sarkar, Twin Valley Homes Director of Housing said: "The money for the wildflower meadow on North Road was obtained by the Wildlife Trust. They successfully bid for money from an environmental fund which has money earmarked for this type of project.

Twin Valley Homes' contribution was to provide staff to work on the project, so the project has not been at the expense of repair or improvement work for any of our tenants."
