PENDLE kids were told that goals are the only thing worth scoring during a weekend football tournament.

The anti-drugs event was held to raise awareness of the drug support and treatment options provided through projects like Options For All.

Organisers hoped that by getting young people involved in sports they will be less likely to get hooked on drugs.

The tournament was open to teams of seven aged between 16 and 24. It was supported by Pennine Police, the Army, East Lancashire Drugs Services, Lifeline, Lancashire Youth Services and Building Bridges.

Options For All is a project which aims to help young people, particularly in Pendle's ethnic minority community.

Event organiser Ishtiaq Ali, said: "We've got to take the message out into the community and engage young people, not by preaching at them, but be getting them involved in fun events like football tournaments."
