A MAN who got behind the wheel for the 14th time while banned has been given a two-month jail term.

Darren Phillip Roberts, 23, is currently serving five months behind bars and the new sentence will run at the same time.

Roberts was told by Burnley magistrates he had an 'appalling record' for driving while banned.

The defendant, of no fixed address, but formerly of Earby, had admitted driving while disqualified, using an uninsured vehicle and having no test certificate on March 8. He was also banned for two years.

The court was told Roberts was spotted in the early hours trying to bump start a car. He was sitting in the driver's seat, with keys in the ignition.

The defendant, who had 57 previous convictions, had 13 previous offences of driving while disqualified on his record..

Richard Taylor, defending, told the court Roberts accepted the bench had no alternative but to send him to custody.

He was due to be released from jail on September 15.

He said that until the five month sentence, he had not been behind bars since 1997.
