A CHARITY that helps victims of crime in East Lancashire is looking for people to take part in its second annual fund-raising cross-country run on September 20.

Victim Support Lancashire wants people to come forward and earn sponsorship at the event at Leck Hall, near Kirkby Lonsdale, home of the charity's president Lord Shuttleworth. Last year, the charity offered help to 40,000 households and 10,000 witnesses attending court to give evidence in criminal trials. Many of these cases involved violent offences, including murder, rape and other sexual assaults.

Chief executive Julie Young said: "We cannot provide the service we offer without the help of nearly 350 dedicated volunteers who give up their time to support those affected by crime.

"We depend on the support of the public for funds to improve our service to those left traumatised by a callous attack on their person, property or someone they love."

Registration and sponsor forms are available from the service's area office on 01772 828422.
