CHARITIES working with children in East Lancashire have been awarded more than £100,000 from the cash raised by BBC Children in Need.

The cash will go to Bank Hey Good Morning Club, in Blackburn, and the East Lancashire Deaf Society and Happy Faces Childcare, in Burnley.

The money comes from the £25million raised in the national appeal last November and brings the total allocated to Lancashire to £342,719.

The East Lancashire Deaf Society will use the £56,250 it received to hire two part-time outreach project workers, one male and one female, to engage young deaf people across East Lancashire and provide them with support.

Youth project co-ordinator, Donna Williams, said: "This money is desperately needed and will do a lot of good.

"These outreach workers will be based in Burnley but work across East Lancashire creating youth projects to meet the needs of young deaf people who have been excluded because of their disability."

Another £18,406 of the money will pay for staff to run the Bank Hey Good Morning Breakfast Club for the next three years.

The club provides a nutritious breakfast and adult supervision before the start of the school day to children with various social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Happy Faces Childcare Ltd in Burnley will get £30,430 to pay for a full-time development worker.
