A QUICK-thinking paramedic unable to get to an injured mountain biker borrowed a motorbike to reach him.

The Burnley ambulance man was part of a crew attending a call to an injured biker on a remote track near Worsthorne.

But the ambulance was unable to get to the stricken biker and the crew were forced to find another way to reach the injured man. After calling for help from the Lancashire Air Ambulance one of the paramedics dashed to a nearby house and asked to borrow a motorbike.

The mountain biker, a 32-year-old man, was cycling along Gorple track at just after 8pm on Tuesday when he fell off his bike colliding with a stone wall. The accident happened after he tried to avoid another group of bikers coming over the brow of a steep hill.

One of the group called for an ambulance and gave the injured man first aid. The cyclist was then treated by the paramedic after borrowing a motorbike from a passing rider.

The air ambulance arrived on the scene to airlift the casualty to Burnley General Hospital with cuts, a suspected fracture to the shoulder blade and pain in his right hip.
