A LOCAL charity may have to sell its specially adapted minibus unless volunteer drivers come forward...
A desperate appeal has gone out for local residents to lend support and help disabled people get out and about by taking the wheel of the Lancaster and Morecambe Scope Fellowship bus.
If no-one volunteers, members fear they may have to get rid of the fully insured, taxed and tested vehicle.
Spokesman Dorothy Winder says members used to enjoy days out when there was a pool of drivers - but the group is now confined to its Stanley Road base in Morecambe.
"We are the owners of a minibus, adapted for wheelchairs and fully MOT'd - but not one voluntary driver," she says. "We are debating whether to get shot of the it."
She says the group is also looking for new committee members to help with book keeping and clerical work.
"We are struggling," she admits. "I am 83 - I started with this in 1957 and am secretary and treasurer."
Volunteer drivers must be aged 25 and over with a clean licence. To help the group, visit 79-83 Stanley Road on Wednesday afternoons or call Dorothy on 01524-65417.
