GREG Strong is hoping to resurrect his own career and Bury's fortunes in his two month spell at the club.

The ex-Wanderer is at Gigg Lane on loan from Hull, where he still has two years left on a contract, but has impressed in his first couple of games alongside Danny Swailes.

The 27-year-old was recruited following the departure of Steve Redmond, Nicky Hill, Jamie Stuart and Michael Nelson, and was keen to move down the M62 after making just three appearances for the Tigers in his first season.

He spent the second period of last year on loan at Cheltenham and then Scunthorpe, and hopes to add to his games tally at Gigg Lane.

"I'm enjoying being here," said Strong. "I knew the manager from when we were both at Blackpool and he offered me the chance to come here.

"I hope we can help each other out. I need to play games at this point in my career, and Bury need a defender at the moment.

"For me it's good to get back playing, although I still need a few more games to be properly match fit. So far me and Swailesy seem to have complimented each other well in the centre.

"There is a good group here, and it's nice for me because a lot of the players are from this area and so am I.

"In terms of results things can only get better, but I've seen some really impressive young players here and everyone is looking forward to Saturday and turning things around."

Strong has certainly impressed his new boss in his short spell with the club, despite back to back victories and five goals conceded.

Preece said: "Without Greg we would be in a lot of trouble because we are very thin in defence after losing players.

"He has impressed me so far and none of the goals we have let in can be blamed on him. Although he is only here in the short-term he will make a difference."
