A SCHEME to build 10 one-bedroomed apartments for people with learning difficulties and 14 two-bedroomed apartments for the elderly in Mitchell Street, Clitheroe, has been unanimously approved by planners.
Darwen-based Northern Estate Management Ltd presented plans to construct the units on open land to Ribble Valley Council's planning and development committee.
The meeting heard Clitheroe Town Council was concerned the development would lead to an increase in on-street parking and three residents had objected, claiming the site was unsuitable.
Senior planning officer John Macholc said: "It is clear that the scheme is not a speculative development and meets a specific need for learning disabilities accommodation, and sheltered support for the elderly.
"I am fully aware of the concerns of residents, but consider the scheme, subject to adequate control, would not impinge significantly on their amenities."
