A LANCASTER city councillor who acts in the interests of and on behalf of those who vote for him - I refer to the report last week on the Government's drive to force water utility companies to fluoridate the local water supply and the council's move to block this.

Cllr John Whitelegg is absolutely correct to advise that fluoride is harmful to health, especially when it becomes concentrated in the body. An effect of fluoride is that it causes brittleness, and it is interesting to note that the majority of dentists recommend using fluoride toothpaste but do no support fluoridation of the water supply.

I wish to congratulate Cllr Whitelegg and the 26 others who backed his campaign for fluoride-free water.

However, despite the extensive evidence that fluoridation amounts to the poisoning of the water supply, I note that 15 councillors voted against the campaign led by Cllr Whitelegg and six more abstained.

I would like to know the names of the 21 who failed the vote in our interests - and why the local press continually fail to identify how individual councillors vote.
