ONCE again we see Lancaster City Council apparently racing to throw our money away on what is described as 'big, bold and breathtaking' by the enthusiastic Cllr Ron Sands. Does the council never learn?

At this stage it's impossible to tell how much of our largesse will be dispensed once again, but past events, such as Blobbygate, suggest that it will be a more than a considerable amount.

What guarantees if any, are to be negotiated this time, on any return for the money invested? If Urban Splash are so keen to press on with this project, then why not let them simply get on with it?

Personally I would love to see the building refurbished but let us not once again, fall into the trap of becoming a partner in such a venture. We all saw what happened last time!

Perhaps it's time to rethink the future of this building altogether and arrive at a solution devoid of any council investment. The past has proved its utter inability to see the wood for the trees.

I prefer to make no comment about the extension of the Tern Project, mentioned in the same article, assuming that money will be raised from the private sector?

The Midland is, or was, a most attractive building but the reference in Cabinet, to it having such great importance towards the future of Morecambe, leaves me bemused. Perhaps I'm just a cynic at heart?
