POLICE were hunting for a gang of men after they attacked a 22-year-old from behind in a vicious attack in Leigh town centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Two friends were returning home from a night out along Church Street at 1.00 - 1.30am when the unknown gang came from behind and pushed the 22-year-old man to the floor -- repeatedly kicking him in the head and body -- while his friend ran off to raise the alarm.
The gang also stole the man's mobile phone and a quantity of money.
The injured man was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital where he is still being treated for a fractured cheekbone and other head and facial injuries.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact them on 0161 872 5050.
