MORE than a score of talented young musicians made sweet music at a junior brass band day.
The eight to 13-year-olds took part in the musical extravaganza at Bedford High.
The event was the brainchild of former Royal British Legion and Leigh Silver Band member Harold Roberts who was determined to keep the brass band tradition alive after the demise of the Leigh Silver band in 2001.
He was contacted by Bedford High head Stephen Preston, and he agreed to donate the instruments from the defunct band to the school.
Now he hopes that the brass band day will become an annual event -- and attract the brass band stars of tomorrow.
Mr Roberts told the Journal: "It was great to see so many young people taking part. They were unbelievably enthusiastic and by the end were playing some good stuff.
"The idea is to try and capture the children's interest in playing brass instruments from as early an age as possible. Hopefully days like this will encourage more youngsters to play in a brass band and keep the tradition alive in Leigh."
