TWO school sports stars have bagged a haul of golden honours.

Brother and sister team, Anthony Taylor and Frances Peers, have returned from international Catholic Games in Spain with championship titles galore.

The 16-years-olds, who are now awaiting their GCSE results, were chosen to represent Great Britian at the games in Salamanca, Anthony at football and Frances at swimming.

Frances scooped five gold medals and a bronze in the pool and right midfield player Anthony was a goal scoring member of the winning GB squad which defeated the US and Italy to go on to defeat the home country 3-0 in the final.

Frances, who swims for Tyldesley, Wigan and Lancashire collected three breaststroke golds, a relay and team gold and a bronze in the butterfly.

Anthony, who has done well at soccer since he was spotted at a Bobby Charlton School at the age of eight, was on Bolton Wanderers books until 18 months ago and is now looking for a scholarship. He plays for Ashton.

Mum and French teacher Sharon Peers said: "We and the school are very proud of their achievements.

"We'd like to thank everyone who helped to sponsor the trip including the school PTA, the Gifted and Talented Fund, Wigan Sports Association, Wigan Education, Brother John at St Joseph's and family members."
