NOMINATIONS for our Pride Of East Lancashire Awards have been flooding in since its launch in May.

But today we are issuing a rallying call for more nominations in categories proving less popular.

The purpose of this campaign is to celebrate East Lancashire and its achievers, both past and present, with 11 awards -- Child of Courage, Outstanding Volunteer, Community Group, Neighbour of the Year, Outstanding Young Volunteer, Community/Social Enterprise, Spirit of Sport, Outstanding Vocational Worker, Gift of Life, Grass Roots Champion and Readers' Choice.

Almost 200 nominations have been submitted but have mostly been recommendations for children of courage, community groups and outstanding volunteers. But we are lacking in nominations for Outstanding Young Volunteers. This category is open to volunteers who are 16 or younger.

Another category with few nominations is Community/Social Enterprise for organisations that have shown outstanding commitment to promoting training for socially excluded people in community-owned businesses.

Nominations can be made until September 30.

Group winners will receive £3,000 to spend on their project, individuals will win a £2,000 holiday and £1,000 cash. Remember to include contact details for yourself and the person nominated and a short letter explaining why tat person should win.
