GED Furey is looking to extend his record as the greatest champion in the history of the Lancashire Open.

The Pleasington pro goes into the event at Blackpool North Shore on Monday as a five-time champion.

And victory would give Furey, who last took the title in 2000, double the amount of wins of anyone else. Ian Mosey's three titles puts him second in the roll of honour.

But Furey faces strong opposition at the event, which is sponsored by James Brearley stockbrokers, from other East Lancashire golfers.

Burnley amateur Michael Hunt made a strong challenge for last year's title before Royal Lytham and St Annes assistant Scott Astin pipped him.

Furey's fellow Pleasington member Nick Slade is also part of the 105-strong field, as is Chorley's Mark Bradley and John Twissell from Clitheroe.

Tee-off times: 8.18am Ian Singleton (Whalley); 8.27 Mark Bradley (Chorley), Simon Townend (Wilpshire); 8.54 Jon Haines (Euxton Park); 9.21 Nick Slade (Pleasington); 9.30am Danny Lord (Stonyhurst Park); 9.57 Mark Harling (Accrington & District); 10.24 Michael Hunt (Burnley); 11am Michael Bardi (Mytton Fold); 11.54 Ged Furey (Pleasington); 12.03 John Twissell (Clitheroe); 1.15Graeme Slater (Burnley).
