REGARDING the outburst from Councillor Brian Collis on the site of the Royal Lancashire Show (LET, August 1), I am amazed that someone who has spent most of his life in the licensed trade and insurance can suddenly become an expert in local drainage.

He would be well advised to speak to the Hargreaves family, who farmed Salesbury Hall Farm for many years, or a certain member of their staff, as he would learn that the land at Salesbury Hall Farm and in particular the show field, is some of the driest in the north of England.

If the weather had remained fine for the show there would not have been any problems.
