BUS services in Bury are to be improved as part of £32.4 million package for Greater Manchester.
The money will be spent on priority measures along routes to enable buses to operate more reliably, using low-emission vehicles, providing shelters, and having better information at stops and improved standards of comfort.
A quality bus corridor will be developed between Bolton and Littleborough, through Bury and Rochdale, along the A58.
Councillor Andrew Fender, chairman of Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority's policy committee, said that the improvements are not just about bus shelters and bus lanes.
"People have to be able to walk to these shelters, which requires good footpaths, safe crossings and good lighting. Solutions also have to be found for issues such as residential parking.
"Additionally, in district centres, the smooth flow of buses has to be achieved alongside wider footpaths, high quality landscapes, economic activity, parking and loading zones."
The Government grant has been awarded in a bid to encourage more people to travel by bus.
