MASKED carjackers broke into a house and frog-marched the homeowner to his car keys before stealing his £22,000 VW Golf.

The man, who does not want to be named, says he wants to moved from the area after Monday night's terrifying ordeal.

The unusual carjacking incident happened on Monday at 11.20pm as the 40-year-old man was working on a computer in an upstairs room.

Four men wearing balaclavas smashed the front door of the house in Heathlands Drive, Prestwich, and threatened him.

He said: "They demanded the keys to my car and literally frog-marched me to my keys which were in a cupboard in the house. They threatened me but I was not harmed. Had I refused to do what they asked then I believe they would have attacked me.

All the offenders are said to be white men, in their mid 20s, approximately 5ft 9 ins tall. They wore dark clothing and all spoke with Salford accents.

The victim said: "It was terrifying. They must have watched me for a bit and decided they wanted the car. It was stolen to order I am sure.

"Now I just want to move house and get away from here. I have spent years saving up for the car and I want it back. I've only had it since April."

PC John Flowers of Bury police said the robbers went to great lengths to steal the car. He said: "This is an unusual carjacking incident in that victims are normally targeted as they are either getting in or out of their vehicles.

"The four men went to great lengths to force their way into the house to get the keys. I am sure someone in the area had seen the offenders prior to the incident"

Detectives have appealed for any residents in the area to come forward if they saw the men's moments before they burst into the house. Anyone with information should contact Whitefield CID on 0161 856 8248 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
