THE brother of a man said to have been knifed during rival gang clashes in Burnley on Saturday night has appeared before the town's magistrates.

Fayaz Khan, 24, of Pheasantford Street, Burnley, is charged with violent disorder.

Khan, who did not enter a plea, will have his case heard at Preston Crown Court and was bailed until October 9.

The defendant was ordered to live at Fleetwood Road, Burnley, not to go within 200 metres of Redvers Street and not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.

Shiraz Khan is recovering in hospital with a stab wound which missed his heart by half an inch but pierced his spleen and stomach, after the trouble which was said to involve two rival factions on Redvers Street, Duke Bar.

Unemployed Nadeem Ashraf, 30, of Cardinal Street appeared before the bench on Monday, charged with attempted murder.

Waqas Saeed, 22 of Waterbarn Street, Faissar Mahmood, 27, of Redvers Street, all Burnley and a 17-year-old from the town, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faced an allegation of violent disorder.

Ashraf and Saeed were remanded in custody while their two co-defendants were given conditional bail until August 20.
