ANDY Preece believes concentration is the key ahead of Saturday's Division Three clash with Scunthorpe.

The Shakers are searching for their first point of the season following the 4-2 defeat at Swansea last weekend, while they also lost 1-0 at Tranmere in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night.

Preece's side were level at 1-1 until the 79th minute in Wales and went down to a goal in the dying seconds at Prenton Park to deny them the chance of progressing to the second round.

Now the manager is calling on an extra effort in the closing minutes.

He said: "It is a matter of the players looking at each other and encouraging each other to just keep things going a little longer.

"Playing the full 90 minutes is something we can work on in terms of fitness, but the players need to show the desire and concentration in the match to finish the job off.

"We need to give what we gave in the first half at Tranmere for a full 90 minutes and if we do that we will beat Scunthorpe. It's very important to get our first point on the board."

Preece feels it may also be a case of closing ranks rather than his side trying to entertain their way to victory.

"It's nice to play good football," he said, "We played some nice passing stuff at Tranmere and were very positive in our play.

"But it still hurts to lose a game no matter how entertaining you have been."

Goalkeeper Glyn Garner is certainly not worried about the fact they have lost two in two, pointing to the back to back defeats against Oxford and Cambridge at the start of last season.

The Welshman said: "There is no problem, we lost the opening couple last year and ended up going on a good run and getting in the play-offs.

"We have played some good football and the defence is gelling well in front of me, so I'm very confident about things."

Bury have no fresh injury worries after the mid-week game, while trialist Phil Charnock could approach fitness next week.
