BLAZING boss Gary Megson wants his Baggies to stick the boot into Burnley and kick-start their season.

Albion suffered a shock 4-1 opening day defeat to a Paul Merson-inspired Walsall at the Bescot Stadium last weekend.

And after recovering to hit four themselves in the midweek Carling Cup romp against Brentford, Megson is demanding his side reproduce that form to get the First Division promotion favourites up and running.

He said: "It's our first home game of the season and we need to get the season kicked-off league wise.

"I said to the players before Tuesday's game (Brentford) that apart from Jason Koumas no-one had really started the season.

"Afterwards I thought a lot certainly had, although that was in the Cup. Certainly in the league we have had one 90 minutes and the result went against us.

"There were positives to take from that, but I'm not one of those people who tries to look for a silver lining - we got beat 4-1. End of story."

Megson is more than aware that Clarets keeper Brian Jensen will be out to prove a point after being shown the door at the Hawthorns.

But there is no room for sentiment in football - and Megson will greet the big Dane before ordering his side to ruin Jensen's return.

He said: "It will be nice to see Brian again and he certainly needs no introductions to anybody here.

"But that's as far as it goes, because it's an important game for us."

And Megson is pinning his hopes on "the best midfielder outside the Premiership" as he hopes to banish the memory of their opening-day thrashing by Walsall.

The Baggies boss believes Koumas can be a key man in bouncing back from that setback against Burnley.

Megson said: "I don't think there is a better midfielder outside the Premiership than Jason. He is already looking a better player than he did last season.

"He is certainly fitter. We sent him for some blood tests to try and improve his fitness and he has certainly responded."
