BLACKPOOL North and Fleetwood MP, Joan Humble, is set to fight on at the next General Election after being unanimously re-selected by the local party.

After a six week consultation period, constituency chairman, Cllr Deirdre Hall, said: "I am delighted to declare that Joan Humble has had the support of all those consulted and will be Labour's candidate when the next general election is called. We all appreciate very much her hard work as our local MP and offer her our full support."

Mrs Humble added: "It is an enormous privilege to be the MP for Blackpool North and Fleetwood. I shall continue to support and represent my constituents both at Westminster and locally, and I look forward to the challenge of the next election."

The next election is due by 2006, by which time constituency boundaries may have been redrawn, moving Fleetwood into the Lancaster seat and creating a new 'Blackpool North and Cleveleys' constituency.
