LOWES PARK Golf Club's Daniel Thornton smashed the Pike Fold course record on Sunday.

The sixteen-year-old Lancashire Under-16 player (pictured left) was competing in the Bury District Golf Association's Duxbury Trophy when he shot a gross 70 playing off a handicap of four over the par 72 course.

The record was recently held by 15-year-old Pike Fold member Marcus Armitage and in breaking it Daniel took his handicap down from four to three.

It was only the fourth occasion he had played the Pike Fold course and as well as clinching the record he also won Best Nett 0-14 handicap with his round of 66.

Daniel has been playing golf since he was eight and has been a member of Lowes Park for five years.

The three-man team competition was won by the Pike Fold 12 side who had a combined nett score of 215.

They edged out the Lowes Park 7 team after a card play-off.

Best Gross went to S. Brierley with 71 while Best Nett 15-28 Handicap was won by R. Simcock with 67.

There was a 2s competition run by the professional on the day and the outstanding ones at P. Ashcroft (R) and K. Mitchell (B). Please contact the professional at Pike Fold.
