A PAIR of music lovers are encouraging fellow fans to get into the spin after converting a charity shop into a vinyl haven.

Pete and Pauline Kennedy, of Wolseley Street, Ewood, Blackburn, set up Drumbeat in Bolton Road, Chorley, to share their lifelong passion for music and help reunite people with their favourite songs from over the years.

Pete, 56, a rock 'n' roll lover who attends festivals twice a year, is a record collector who runs a stall on Preston market.

When he was made redundant from a wallpaper firm, he and Billy Fury fan Pauline, who have two grown-up children, decided to turn their hobby into a business and decorated the walls with hundreds of their rarest disks, including limited edition picture EPs and singles in all shades of vinyl.

The shop stocks vinyl from all eras, from 50s and 60s pop to the latest dance and house music, as well as CDs, sheet music and memorabilia.

The most expensive record is an Alexis Korner disc worth £50, but much of the stock costs less than £10.

And as well as inviting people of all ages to browse through their collection, much of it taken from their home, the couple will also go the extra mile to help people relive their special memories.

Pete said: "We will help anyone find a particular tune. If we don't have it in stock, I go to collectors' fairs and have various contacts and I will do my best to get hold of it.

"We get some unusual requests. I've had people in here looking for funeral music, when they want to trace someone's favourite song to play.

"Records relate to times in people's lives and people say a certain tune brings back good memories and bad memories.

What we love to see is young people coming into Drumbeat to listen to and buy records their parents enjoyed in their youth. And hearing this music in its original vinyl format is often the best."

Their top three requested performers are The Beatles, Elvis and The Sex Pistols

Pauline added: "Sometimes I've had people just come in and stare at the walls for hours, just talking about how it takes them back. I've always loved music and it's good to be able to share it."
