POLICE tested a man for drink driving after he drove into cones at the scene of a fallen tree in Blackburn at around 7.30am today.
Officers had coned off the tree, which was partially blocking the road near the junction of Preston Old Road and Livesey Branch Road, Feniscowles, and were directing traffic through.
The man, driving a white Citroen van, was stopped after his vehicle collided with the cones but a breath test was negative.
Police received a call about the tree at 6am from a nearby resident and, with the help of a passer-by's tractor, moved it to the side of the road.
Highways staff from Blackburn with Darwen Council then came to cut the tree up and remove it.
Police said they did not know what caused the tree, believed to be 30ft, to topple.
PS Chris Driver of Blackburn Police said: "The tree was blocking two-thirds of the road coming into Blackburn but it did not cause any major traffic problems.
"We carried out a breath test on one driver at the scene after he drove into cones but the test was negative."
