THE Highercroft community is staging a summer carnival on August 31.
The event will be the culmination of several months of preparation and will be led by Coun Dorothy Walsh, regeneration officer Aziz Hafiz and helpers from St. James' Church.
Local children have been creating costumes this summer on the theme of 'beach and sea' for the big day. They will parade through the streets of the Blackburn community.
The day begins with a service at St. James' Church, Stopes Brow, at 10am. Half-an-hour later a majorette competition takes place at the recreation centre in Fishmoor Drive.
The parade leaves Our Lady Church at 1pm and will reach the Recreation Centre at 2.30pm. St. James' Church, is hosting food tasting, juggling, face painting, hair braiding and a balloon race from 4pm.
The final event, a free disco and karaoke at Longshaw community centre, starts at 8pm.
