RESIDENTS badly hit by summer road closures in Leigh have breathed a sigh of relief with the delay of an environmental clean-up scheme.
Originally the £11m project, designed to help prevent litter from the sewer system getting into local watercourses, was set for winter.
But following a meeting between United Utilities, residents and business people in Wigan Road, MP Andy Burnham and local councillors -- the scheme has been rescheduled for next summer.
Concerns were raised that if the work went ahead as planned it would affect traders already hit by long road closures from April to June this year.
