ELTON breezed past Daisy Hill at the weekend to strengthen their position in the top half of the table.

Elton batted first and were indebted to young Chris Read's half-century for a good start. Mark Goddard (64*) and Peter Kay (42*) then pushed the total up to 211-6 as the Elton innings threatened to crumble.

In reply, Daisy Hill were never at the races and were all back in the hut for just 102. Kay (3-25) and Goddard (4-32) were also the heroes with the ball.

Meanwhile, Walshaw's feint title hopes took another battering as Little Hulton showed their class.

Little Hulton were thankful for Mark Penny's aggressive innings of 60, that included six sixes and four fours, as their top-order suffered at the hands of Rob Faulkner (3-57) and Jonathan Fielding (5-87).

Walshaw's target of 177 didn't look too challenging once they reached 49-0 after ten overs but they were 53-3 just three overs later with top batsmen Faulkner, Fielding and Tony Kelly all back in the pavilion.

Danny Hornby and Lee Chapman put up some dogged resistance but they couldn't prevent Andy Sutherland notching match-winning figures of 7-46.
