BURNLEY Civic Society is appealing for new members to join them to help promote the history and character of the town.

The society said it wants new blood to help its achieve its objectives which include encouraging high standards of town planning in the borough, encouraging the preservation and improvement of historic interest and stimulating public interest in the history and character of the area.

The society is especially concerned with the protection and enhancement of the borough's conservation areas which range from the Tudor hamlet of Hurstwood to groups of handloom weavers' cottages and Victorian residential areas.
