REGARDING author Bob Pearson's recollections of the 'Tuppenny Rush' at the old Star Cinema, in Little Harwood, Blackburn (LET, August 21), my memories of the area while living in Millham Street as a six-year-old in 1937 were the thrill of finding the 'Star' on my own and also of being invited by a pal to attend free 'pictures' at the local church on Wednesday evenings.
This was only to find, after much excitement, that the pictures were enormous religious paintings of Jesus and the Garden of Gethsemane, etc.
These were cranked up in turn like a large window blind by an elderly man of very spare build, who was very spare with his smiles too.
