BURNLEY Reserve team manager Ronnie Jepson has slammed Arthur Gnohere after the 6-0 defeat to Barnsley.

Frenchman Gnohere was hauled off at half time yesterday after a display that disgusted Jepson, whose side again consisted largely of scholars.

Jepson said: "I am asking young boys to run around and show a great attitude and commitment for Burnley Football Club, but Arthur is simply not doing that.

"One hundred per cent commitment should be the minimum requirement for senior professionals, who should be helping the young lads along.

"But Arthur is nowhere near putting it in at the moment and if he is going to play for Burnley Football Club, he has to start giving it a go."

By the time Ghohere was replaced by Joe Booth at half time, the inexperienced Clarets second string was already 5-0 down to their Roses rivals.

Burnley, with five first year scholars in the starting line-up, got off to the worst possible start and went behind after just four minutes when Isaiah Rankin teed up Griff Jones.

The Tykes striker quickly capitalised on that start to complete a hat-trick inside 22 minutes with another smart finish and a penalty.

Matty O'Neill had forced the Clarets first effort inbetween with a low shot well saved by Tykes stopper Danny Alcock.

But that only temporarily stemmed the flow of goals and Steve Carson made it four after 33 minutes before Rankin added a fifth minutes later.

Nicky Summerbee, making his Burnley bow on the right wing, then tested Alcock with apowerful drive from 35 yards before he was also substituted at half time, but later earned praise from Jepson.

The Clarets then held their own in a much improved second half, although Barnsley added a sixth just after the hour through Alex Neil to condemn the visitors to a third successive defeat.

However, Jepson said: "The results are of no consequence to me. The side is currently made up mainly of young boys, but they are a credit to themselves and I couldn't be more pleased.

"We knew it was going to be a tough season, but it is all about bringing some young boys through like Richard Chaplow and if we can do that, Burnley Football Club benefits."

Burnley Reserves: Hale, Pitham, Scott, Trotman, Gnohere (Booth, 45) Avery, Summerbee (Taylor, 45), Pugh, Hindle, Preston (Ince, 23) O'Neill.
