ATHERTON Collieries disappointingly went out at the first hurdle in the FA Cup when Unibond League outfit Farsley Celtic beat them 3-0 at Alder House.
The Yorkshire side dominated from the outset but the Colls defence managed to hold out until Ben Austin pounced on a clearance to volley home from the edge of the penalty box on 20 minutes.
The local side twice had good opportunities to equalise but the Farsley goalkeeper thwarted them. The visitors increased their lead on 39 minutes when Matt Smithard headed in at the far post.
To their credit the young Colls side battled hard, but another goal by Smithard on 63 minutes finished the game off.
Manager Joe Murty has to lift the players for two away games this week at unbeaten Stone Dominoes (Stoke) on Saturday and at Warrington Town next Tuesday.
