NEW pensioners eligible for a winter fuel payment are urged to apply now for help in heating their homes.
Applications from people 60 or over (on or before September 21 2003) who have not previously received the £200 award should be in before September 19 to receive the cash in time for Christmas.
Those who have already received the bonus need not apply.
This year for the first time anyone aged 80 or over may get an extra payment of up to £100.
Newly eligible pensioners who have not received a claim form can call the winter fuel helpline on 08459 151515. The final deadline for receipt of claims for this winter is March 30 2004.
