ROCK 'n' Rollin' Ronnie Carr was thrilled to discover the latest lasting tribute to Leigh's favourite Sixties band, The Beat Boys.

While taking a trip back in time to pay homage to the golden days of pop in Liverpool, Ronnie spotted the group's name on a brick built into the Wall of Fame at the world famous Cavern Club.

The wall highlights the names of all the bands who appeared there between 1956 and 1973 and was unveiled by Gerry Marsden in 1997.

Leigh's best known bopper, Ronnie, of Buck Street, Leigh, who has spent 60 years in the entertainment business, played The Cavern several times where the group, who recorded on the Decca label and made numerous TV appearances, also backed the legends Screaming Jay Hawkins and Gene Vincent.

He said: "My son Paul, who leads the recognised tribute band State Of Quo, has seen the accolade but I hadn't until now. I felt so proud that our band, which called it a day in 1965, was included in such a fantastic line up of talent."
