Tournament after tournament - we've never seen a month like it!

The most recent to take place was the Little Harwood Youth (LHY) Cage tournament (Sunday August 31) which attracted 24 teams in two different age ranges. Held in the famous 'cage' the day of activities aimed to bolter community cohesion through sport.

Diamond Valaton FC lifted the seniors trophy after beating Lowfurn Furniture 3-2 in the final. The under 15s saw Little Harwood United overcome Pleckgate Boys 6-0. Anis Bhad and Mohammed Ayub Khan (under 15s) picked up the player of the tournament awards and Adam Lambat and Atif Patel (under 15s) the goalkeeper prizes.

The cage five-a-side football pitch is very popular with all sections of the local community. However, after years of campaigning an astro-turf has not been installed at the ground and the LHY continue in their bid for improvements.

Mukhtar, of the LHY told us, "We wanted the Mayor and Mayoress and the council to see how much interest there is in the local community for sport. We had more than 500 people here throughout the day taking part in the range of activities.

"I would like to thank Rehan Bhatti for organising the juniors competition and Zoff Makdha for putting together the seniors tournament." There were also special thanks to Pat McFarle, all the volunteers who gave up their own time to help on the day and St Stephen's Primary school.

Coun Abdul Patel said, "It was a very successful tournament that included all members of the community. The LHY committee members did very well."

The tournament was made possible through assistance from Blackburn with Darwen Council, Prince's Trust, Lancashire Youth Association and local businesses.
