A 16-year-old has gone nine years at school without ever taking a single day off.

Zahida Gani of St George's Road, Preston attended every single school day without fail at Preson Muslim Girls High School. It followed her four years at Deepdale Junior school where she also finished with a 100% attendance record.

That's an amazing 2, 772 days at school!

She told us, "I wanted to maintain my record I had at Junior school and even though I felt a bit poorly sometimes I made sure I went to school.

"I think my friends probably thought I was a bit strange but I enjoyed going to school.

" I liked being with my friends and the school so I never really felt like taking a single day off."

Zahida's mum Jenab who is also a teacher at the school said, "She is a determined daughter and insisted I never made any of her doctors appointments during school time. It was a struggle for me to attend every day but she just wanted to maintain her record."

Zahida is now going on to study A-Levels at Preston college. "I 'll try not to miss a day again. I know there might be some children thinking how does she manage it. I just say to them it important to enjoy your school life and make lots of friends."

Preston Muslim Girls School achived a 71% A-C pass rate this beating last year's figure of 67%. Mufti Javid, Chair of Governors said: "Zahida's achievement is indeed remarkable and it's the first time a pupil has gone through school without missing a single day. She is truly a role model for students across the country."

"The school aims to provide the best education to it's pupils in an Islamic environment. Through the efforts of brothers and sisters it is hoped the girls leave the school looking forward to a prosperous future."
