A SUCCESSFUL fun day staged at a Whitefield pub by the charity Hurdles to raise cash to send disabled youngsters to Euro Disney.

For guests at Saturday's (Aug 30) event were well-known Coronation Street actors David Neilson and Malcolm Hebden who play Roy Cropper and Norris Cole in the popular soap.

The Corrie pair helped Hurdles, which supports families of children with disabilities, raise in excess of £3,000 during the fun day staged at the Eagle and Child pub in Higher Lane, Whitefield.

Activities included a bowling tournament, a guess-the-weight of a cake competition, face painting and disco. The event climaxed with an evening auction.

Nicola Forshaw, project manager for the Re:d Centre where Hurdles is based, said: "We were very pleased to welcome the stars from Coronation Street. They were absolutely lovely and spent a long time with us, signing autographs and chatting to visitors.

"Around 300 attended the event and we were delighted with the fact that we raised in excess of £3,000."

The fun day was the first in a series of fund-raising events aimed at collecting around £20,000 to send between 50 and 100 children to Euro Disney next year.

Hurdles will be holding a "hooley" event at the Irish Heritage Centre in Cheetham Hill later this year to boost funds even further
