A VERDICT of suicide was recorded at an inquest into the death of a man found hanged in his Blackpool flat.

William Francis Lismore -- known as Liam -- was found hanging from a bay window pelmet in his Lytham Road flat on July 15, 2003 by a neighbour.

The 22-year-old caterer had hanged himself with what appeared to be a dressing gown cord and he was pronounced dead at 4.45pm.

He had been outside that day enjoying the hot weather and drinking with friends.

He had also taken small amounts of sedatives, the coroner's court heard.

His mother, Margaret Harper, said her Belfast-born son had experienced a 'troubled' childhood and said he would kill himself many times.

He had taken an overdose of tablets when he was 17.

A post mortem examination showed hanging as the cause of death, with evidence of cannabis use and small amounts of tranquillisers in the body.

Blackpool and Fylde deputy coroner, Anne Hind, said: "Taking drugs to solve problems create a lot more than they could ever solve. I think it would appropriate to say that he killed himself whilst the balance of his mind was disturbed."
