Breightmet Utd ... 2

Prestwich Heys ... 1

HEYS unimpressive start to the season continued last Saturday when they went down by two goals to one against last season's First Division champions Breightmet United.

It was a game that Heys dominated for long periods, albeit in midfield, but their superiority brought them no reward mainly because of their limited options in attack.

Injuries and holidays meant Heys went into the game without twelve squad players.

The home side had the perfect start by taking the lead in the second minute when hesitancy on the ball on the edge of the area gave Aldred an opening and his shot went in of the post.

Shaken by this, Heys, with manager Adie Moran pressed into a comeback, proceeded to take control in the midfield and it was he who was the instigator of Heys domination of possession.

Chances were created with monotonous regularity but Heys had nobody to convert and achieve an equaliser.

Sewell had a shot well saved by the keeper but, apart from this, everything was high and wide.

No further goals by the break and the game continued into the second period in exactly the same fashion.

Breightmet had never been in the game as an attacking force but they did increase their lead when a free-kick taken by Aldred sailed over the defensive wall, giving debutant keeper Carmen no chance of saving.

Heys were thrown a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty, which Brandon Jolly converted and thoughts of salvaging a point became a possibility.

Breightmet, though, defended well and they took the three points, which they scarcely deserved, as they had been outplayed.

But, they did have someone who knew where the nets were! Heys: Carmen, Massey, Walters, Slater, K Kavanagh, J Kavanagh, Denham, Garrick, Moran, Sewell, Jolly.

The reserves also lost 2-1 to Breightmet but their problems were more to do with a shortage of players.
