Plans are under way to unearth a junior British arm wrestling team to compete in the World Championships in 2005.

And if the first ever Lancashire Arm Wrestling Championship is anything to go by, then organisers have plenty of talented youngsters to chose from.

A total of 55 young arm wrestlers took part in the inaugural event at the New Era Club in Accrington who competed in eight different age groups.

Individual and team awards were up for grabs and it was the Northern Arm Wrestling Federation team that dominated the event.

The NAWF finished in first place with a total of 191 points, way ahead of host team, New Era who were second with 60 points.

Huncoat Youth Project were third with the Shad Crew in fourth place. The Power Kids from Blackburn were fifth with Great Harwood Youth Club sixth and Whitebirk YIP in seventh spot.

The Northern Arm Wrestling Federation team won four of the age groups with New Era's team also in impressive form.

Tyler Hayhurst of NAWF was first in the five to seven-year-old age group with team-mate Ben Duckworth in second place.

Declan Farrimond of Power Kids was third with William O'Neil of Shad Crew in fourth place.

In the eight to 10-year-old category, New Era's Hamza Jahamzeb was first with Christopher Stones and Scott Entwistle, both of NAWF, second and third respectively.

Fay Clark of Power Kids was fourth.

In the girls 11-13 category, Hayley Dickinson of NAWF was first ahead of Madiga Jahamzeb of New Era, Samantha O'Neil of Shad Crew and Rachel Lucas of New Era.

In the boys event, Jack Ward of New Era was first ahead of team-mate Marcus Walsh. Josh Roberts of NAWF was third with Liam Higson of Shad Crew fourth.

In the 14-15 year old category, Tamsin Berry won the girls event head of NAWF team-mates Dawn Higson and Gemma Blackshaw. Stacey Rudge of Huncoat Youth Project was fourth.

Huncoat TP and Great Harwood dominated the boys event. Lewis Smith of Huncoat was first with team-mate Keiron Goddard in third place. Great Harwood pair, Lee Wright and Tom O'Brien were second and fourth respectively.

Hayley O'Neil of Shad Crew was the girls 16-17 winner. And NAWF cleaned up in the 16-17 age group with Lee Gornall, James Howarth, Danny Park and Mick Duckworth taking the top four places.
