A SECOND WARNING about salmonella in a brand of tahini has gone out across the Fylde Coast after government testers found the bacteria in a sesame seed paste from Cyprus.

Food experts at Wyre Borough Council have warned that the contaminated tahini, made in Cyprus by C H Morphakis of Larnaca, could be available in the area.

The product is in 310g glass jars, with a gold coloured metal screw cap and a best before date of 31.12.06. The label is black with white writing and a picture of a bowl of tahini.

A spokesman for Wyre's food safety section said: "Under no account must the tahini be used or allowed to come into contact with anything else. If anyone in Wyre has any of these jars we should like to hear from them."

The public can reach the food safety section at Wyre Borough Council on 887409.

The advice follows an earlier warning from Blackpool Borough Council about possible salmonella contamination in Super Tahineh Creme de Sesame in 454g and 907g tubs made by S H Al-yaman and Sons, Lebanon, and showing best before dates from January to July 2005.
