PUB grub at the Feilden's's Arms, Mellor Brook, and the Spread Eagle, Sawley, is among the best in the country, according to a consumer publication.
The two East Lancashire pubs are listed in the top 150 for the quality of their food in The Which? Pub Guide 2004, which has just been released.
Judges drew up the shortlist after analysing pubs across the country for the imagination put into menus, the use of local suppliers and the preparation of fresh vegetables.
Andrew Turvil, editor of the book, said: "The very best pubs featured here offer what is truly great about this particular institution: an informal, relaxed approach to hospitality, where you can eat a little or a lot depending on your mood, or just come in for a drink. The best of both worlds."
