McGREGOR has handed Burnley a timely boost by completing his first 90 minutes in six months.

The versatile defender, who made his last appearance in the final game of last season at Wimbledon, starred for the Clarets second string last night as they picked up their first point of the season with a 1-1 draw against Bradford.

And McGregor's recovery from summer knee surgery could not come at a better time for boss Stan Ternent, who is constantly beavering away behind the scenes trying to bolster his limited numbers.

Reserve team manager Ronnie Jepson said: "It was a good 90 minutes under Mark's belt.

"He's been out quite a while, but he's a good pro and he helped the young lads alongside him with a good performance.

"He added a bit of experience, but he was in there to build up his fitness up and he did well."

Meanwhile, Ternent hopes to be further boosted by the return to training of David May following the hamstring injury that has sidelined him for a month.

May's experience has been sorely missed at the back, and, following Andy Todd's return to Blackburn, ultimately led to Arthur Gnohere being recalled from his loan spell at QPR.

Meanwhile, Burnley are sweating on the results of a scan after Delroy Facey suffered the latest toe injury to hit the Clarets squad on Saturday.

The Bolton striker, who last week extended his loan spell for a third month, left Turf Moor on crutches after taking a whack to the top of his toe during the draw with Cardiff.

An X-ray has since shown good news, but the Clarets medical team are rightly taking no chances and Facey has now undergone a scan to assess the full extent of the injury.

Ternent confirmed: "Delroy was on crutches purely as a precaution. It's looks like he's taken a bit of a knock, but we've had it X-rayed and everything seems fine.

"We'll get him scanned up though to check it out thoroughly."

Luke Chadwick suffered a similar toe injury against Millwall a week ago, while Glen Little stubbed his big toe against Cardiff, which hampered him to the extent he had to be substituted late on.
