IN reply to a recent article in the Citizen by Lib Dem councillor Steven Bates, on the subject of the British National Party 'targeting' the resort etc., (September 25). I have to state here and now that far from targeting the town, we in the BNP have in fact been quite active in the area for several years now; in fact for far longer than Mr Bates has been on the local political scene.

The offending leaflet to which he refers is not the first such; during the past several months we have distributed many such covering most aspects of daily and political life; they have thus far been generally well received I might add. Having been personally responsible for the delivery of many of these I can make this statement without fear of contradiction. These leaflets contain nothing that cannot be read on a daily basis in the national newspapers of Great Britain. Why are Mr Bates and others in political circles so afraid of the leaflets? Perhaps its merely because they contain nothing but the truth, and truth and politics do not always sit easily together.

Mr Bates calls the BNP extremists, when in fact the party has an ongoing programme intended to weed out any members with such views, only last month several people were expelled from the party on those grounds. He states that our real motives are racial and that our activities locally are but a smokescreen for our real aims, which he perceives as racial; he also states that there are no ethnic minorities on the Fylde, therefore we cannot attack such people. In actual fact there are several thousand people from several diverse ethnic groups living happily side by side with the locals in and around Blackpool; only recently a Chinese organisation was formed in the town, and which has many members, the vast majority of whom are upstanding and industrious citizens. On the contrary to Mr Bates' beliefs, we are a party of moderation, we do not foster, nor will be tolerate loutish behaviour, violence, racism or extremism in any form.

Counter this with the recent revelations emanating from within the ranks of the Liberal Democrats themselves. As for the Labour Party, and the Tories; it's obvious to all that these two parties lie through their teeth on a daily basis; sleaze, political favours and spin have become bywords for their activities, not to mention intrigue and political infighting on a grand scale. The near criminal activities of some in high office take the breath away.

Are these then the only people in whom the voter must put their trust. The saints preserve us if that were the case. Thankfully there is an alternative and the BNP are the party for Britain's future.

Just who the devil does Councillor Bates imagine he is to criticise the BNP?

In Britain 80 per cent of the population want rid of Blair and his government... sick to the back teeth of spin, lies and deceit, they want an immediate end to war and they deserve a capable, open government.

Do the Liberal Democrats believe they could deliver on these issues?I think not; however given the opportunity by the voter perhaps the BNP may well do so.

E Schofield, Blackpool.
