A DRUNKEN man disturbed patients when he ended up shouting and staggering in the grounds of Burnley General Hospital.

The town's magistrates heard how Kenneth James Drury, 30, then stumbled into the road and 'shoulder barged' into the front of a house.

Drury, of Hargher Street, Burnley, admitted being drunk and disorderly. He was given a 12 months conditional discharge and was told to pay £55 costs.

Mercedah Jabbari, prosecuting, told the court Drury was staggering and shouting in the hospital grounds.

His eyes were glazed, he was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred. Police told him to leave and he did. He was then spotted stumbling into the road on Colne Road. He was arrested and cautioned and told officers he had lost his keys. Drury had 59 previous convictions.

Mark Williams, defending, said Drury had been out drinking with friends, had had too much and had little recollection of what happened.
