ABOUT 80 students from the East Lancashire area will have the chance to see what the NHS has to offer career-wise at a conference on Friday.

This takes place at the Junction 7 Business Park, Clayton-le-Moors, and will provide students under 16 with a glimpse into what it is like to work in health and social care.

The event is being co-ordinated by Cumbria and Lancashire NHS Workforce Development Confederation, in partnership with other NHS trusts in East Lancashire, East Lancashire Education Business Partnership and Blackburn with Darwen Social Services.

The day will offer workshops, led by local NHS and Social Service professionals, covering prosthetics and orthotics, science in the NHS, trauma and resuscitation, therapy services and radiography.

Nick Hayes, Head of Human Resources for East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "This event gives young people the chance to see the wealth of career opportunities open to them in the NHS.

"By having this kind of insight and experience, they can make informed choices about what they want to do with their working lives. We want to show students that the NHS is not just about doctors and nurses, who we know deliver a vital service, but a vast range of other services that are vital in providing healthcare to the nation."
